I am about to do something very stupid – and equally idealistic.
One of my gripes with self-publishing is the available platforms, with the largest one being my absolute definition of corporate evil.
And with what is happening in the world – I am going to rebel in what little ways I can – and that means excluding this platform from my launch, choosing the smaller, one.
That might affect my numbers. It WILL mess up my statistics, as I can’t compare apples and oranges.
But I am still going to do it.
Since the platform-that-shall-not-be-named is also very popular, I am considering offering purchases in their format directly from my website to see if that has a market – but the decision to exclude it does wreac havoc on my initial market plan.
Still; politics isn’t optional, and I have always been too hard headed, so I am going to do it.
Numbers be damned. I’ll find a way to make it work.

Hi Elise!
I completely support your decision for avoiding a ‘corporate evil’ publishers.
While smaller publishers are great for that reason, I did want to mention that they can sometimes come with their own set of problems.
For example, some of their apps, like Rakuten Kobo’s Android app, might not be compatible with all devices. It’s not available on things like the Google TV Streamer or Onyx Boox e-readers (due to compatibility issues), and I’ve also seen several reviews that say it requires a WiFi connection to start, making it impossible to read books on the move. Just something to be aware of 🙂
